Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Ages 7+)
Real skills, confidence, and discipline for ages 7–12 in a safe, structured class.

Looking for kids' BJJ classes in Decatur for ages 7+ (typically 7 to 12)? Our Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program helps students build real skills, confidence, and discipline in a safe, structured class. In this age group, kids can handle more detail and longer drills, so we teach strong basics, clear positions, and progress step-by-step. Coaches keep class controlled and positive, focusing on respect and good habits. New students are welcome, and we help beginners feel comfortable fast.
Skills We Focus On
- Positional control (top position, guard basics, and escapes)
- Technique details (how to do it, and why it works)
- Safe, controlled sparring progressions (introduced step-by-step)
- Confidence, composure, and resilience under pressure
- Anti-bullying skills like boundary setting, staying calm in conflict, and self-defense without kicking or punching
Who This Program Is Great For
- Beginners who want to learn in a structured environment
- Kids who want to build confidence, focus, and discipline
- Students who may want to work toward competition later
- Families in Decatur, Avondale Estates, Oakhurst, Kirkwood, and nearby neighborhoods looking for a fun and structured activity for their children
How Ages 7+ Differs From Ages 4–6
In Ages 7+, kids can follow longer instructions, drill with more purpose, and start learning how positions connect. We also introduce submissions and teach kids how to apply them safely with control. If your child is preschool or kindergarten age, start with our Kids BJJ Ages 4–6 program.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does my child need experience?
No. This class is beginner-friendly, and we help new students ramp up step by step.
Will my child have to spar right away?
No. Sparring is introduced gradually and kept controlled and age-appropriate. Kids can focus on drills and learning first.
Is this good for confidence and bullying?
Yes. We teach boundary setting, staying calm under pressure, and self-defense skills without relying on striking.
How often should beginners come to class?
Most kids come twice a week. Beginners can start with once a week and add additional classes as they get comfortable.
My child is nervous about getting hurt. How physical is it?
At this age the focus is controlled drilling and positional work, not brawling. Submissions are introduced gradually and only practiced with a partner who knows how to tap safely. Coaches monitor every pairing and match kids by size and experience where possible. Discomfort at this level is rare and usually no more than a bumped elbow.
My child already does another sport. Will BJJ conflict?
BJJ actually complements most sports well, such as wrestling, soccer, baseball, basketball, and gymnastics. The body awareness and balance transfer directly. Many of our 7–12 students cross-train with other sports year-round and find BJJ improves their athletic base across the board.
How quickly will my child progress?
Progress depends more on consistency than on natural ability. Kids who come twice a week typically develop noticeable confidence and skill within 2–3 months. We don't rush belt progression; rather, our focus is on building a real foundation, not collecting belts and stripes.
Will my child be in class with much bigger or older kids?
We group by size and experience as much as class size allows. A small 7-year-old will not be paired with a large 12-year-old for drilling. If your child is on the smaller side, we'll make sure they're comfortable from day one.
